THE ART OF INTERNET MEMES
An Internet meme is a concept that spreads from person to person via the Internet.The word meme was coined by Richard Dawkins in his 1976 book The Selfish Gene, as an attempt to explain the way cultural information spreads; internet memes are a subset of this, specific to the culture and environment of the internet.
Using hand drawn illustrations, I explore these small movements that evolve and spread extremely rapidly from person to person via social networks, blogs, direct email, and news sources. The detailed lines, shapes and patterns further accentuate their origins which are often some social interaction, pop culture reference, or situations people often find themselves in. Using just black pens, it is an honest attempt to ampifiy the infectious energy present in this particular manifestation of Cyberculture.

Each one is a piece of art hand signed and numbered by the artist, typically in pencil, in the form (eg): 17/100. The first number is the number of the print itself. The second number is the number of overall prints the artist will print of that image. The lower the second number is, the more valuable and collectible the limited editions are. Each limited edition print will also be accompanied by a hand printed certificate of authenticity that details the number of the print in the edition, as well as the signature of Aakash Anand in order to avoid any counterfeit prints.
